Steven Humphries-Wadsworth, Ph.D., LMFT
Great Falls Area Director of Services
Steve Humphries-Wadsworth Ph.D., LMFT graduated with his doctoral degree
from Texas Tech University in 1999. Steve has worked in the community
mental health setting for his entire professional career and received his MFT licensure in 1998. His early work at Eastern State Hospital in Lexington, KY impressed upon him the critical importance in the recovery process of the family system and the larger systems in which the family is embedded. This led Steve to focus on the field of Marriage and Family Therapy. Steve began his career providing therapy in client homes with low-income families who struggled with multiple problems, including mental health and legal issues. Steve’s work as a research assistant at Texas Tech University gave him the opportunity to work in Youth Detention facilities. His work included providing training for detention center employees, providing therapy for incarcerated juveniles and their families, and joint in-home family therapy projects with juvenile probation officers. These projects demonstrated the efficacy of teaching parenting skills, resolving family issues, and developing a therapeutic connection with probation officers. Steve went on to develop day treatment programs in rural New Mexico for youth who had been expelled from school, develop therapy programs for incarcerated youth in Indiana, and develop therapeutic foster care programs in Wyoming. These programs utilized multiple therapeutic modalities including day treatment, in-home family therapy sessions, parenting skills training, intensive case management, and a strong focus on delivering evidence-based therapy (techniques and approaches that have proven to be successful). Across all these roles, Steve has shared his knowledge, insight, and integrity, and insistence on evidence-based clinical practice to raise the standard of
care among his colleagues and supervisees – resulting in better outcomes
for clients and better job satisfaction for clinical employees.
