Joe - Great Falls
I learned the tools to manage the voices I hear. But I did it without using meds, and that is hard to do. I learned self-control and how to ignore them.
I've recovered enough to be involved with helping nonprofits in our community like being president of the Mental Health America of Great Falls, vice-president of the GF Public Radio Association which owns KGPR, and a founder of Peer Support services in the State of Montana. I'm even running for public office as a Neighborhood Council member in my district.
In the last legislative session, I fought hard to keep the mental health budget from being cut. I've really enjoyed working with the legislature and testifying for mental health bills. Talking to them afterwards is the best part because I meet so many people.
My wife and WRAP classes are two of the reasons I'm recovered. In my spare time, I like to listen to books and volunteering at the public radio station.
