On March 31st, the legislature passed SB150, the bill to extend the sunset date on the Montana Qualified Endowment Tax Credit to 2013. Of 150 legislators, only four voted against the extension.
The bill was sponsored by Sen. Kim Gillan (D-Billings) and carried in the House by Rep. Bob Lake (R-Hamilton). During testimony in both houses many advocates from nonprofit organizations explained how the tax credit had increased permanent accounts that would generate earnings to support ongoing operational needs both now and in the future.
